DESCRIPTION

SPECIFICATIONS

The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer Kit is a widely accepted portable method for evaluating strength and density of in-situ soils. The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer uses a 15-pound (6.8 kg) drive mass, which drops 20 inches (50.8 cm) to strike an anvil and cause penetration of a 1.5-inch (3.8 cm) diameter cone at a 45-degree vertex angle. The blows required to drive the embedded cone a depth of 1-3/4-inch have been correlated by others to N values derived from the Standard Penetration Test (SPT). This is effective when the cone is seated in the bottom of a pre-augered hole at depths of 15 to 20 inches (4.6 to 6.1 cm). The cone can be replaced with a plated drive tube assemble for collection of 3-inch x 10-inch (7.6 x 25.4 cm) samples in pre-augured holes. The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer Kit includes one DCP sleeved drive hammer, one 45-degree vertex angle cone with a 3.8 cm diameter cone, four 30-inch extension rods, a laminated instruction sheet, and the ASTM STP 339 Special Publication. Cone Material: heat-treated cone, zinc-plated components. *Rental kits are shipped in a case; purchased kits do not include a case.
